Did someone say S'mores?

Did someone say S'mores?

Really, who doesn't love a good ooey gooey s'mores?  I'll have to admit I'm not a huge marshmallow fan... no, for real, I'm not.  But, if you put one on a stick while I'm sitting around the campfire, look out, I'm gonna toast it till perfectly golden... and not just once!  I might pull the outside off, eat it, and toast it again 2 or 3 more times.

Now let's talk about adding the perfect accompaniments to that beautifully toasted marshmallow.  To me there isn't really a wrong or right way to eat this sweet little treat.  I found this list of some of the standards, and I've added a few of my favorites too.

  • Marshmallows - You can use oversized marshmallows or even flavored marshmallows, too.
  • Chocolate Hershey bars - Try white chocolate and dark chocolate as well.
  • Cookie and Cream Hershey bars - Add some cookie flavor to your dessert board.
  • Strawberries - Fresh strawberries work best.  Clean and slice the fresh strawberries to be ready to grab and eat.
  • Chocolate-covered graham crackers - Using crackers covered in chocolate saves the step of needing extra chocolate – unless you want extra chocolate.
  • Graham crackers squares - These are what holds everything together!  Try the cinnamon graham crackers too!
  • Girl Scout Cookies - Samoa's and Thin Mints, whatever's your favorite.
  • Peanut Butter Cups - These are my personal favorite.  Or just grab the jar of peanut butter.  And don't be shy you could add jelly too. Have you tried Nutella?
  • Other Candy Bars - Snickers, Mounds, Almond Joy and Milky Ways are not bad choices either.
  • Other Cookies - Chocolate Chip, Oatmeal, Shortbread and I guess you could use just about any other crunchy cookie you might have.

S'mores are fun, so enjoy making them with the things you like.  Oh, I almost forgot bananas... I love banana and peanut butter (with or without the chocolate).  I believe they call it an Elvis S'more.

Make up a basket with all the yummy items of your choosing and add marshmallow roasting sticks and of course a S'mores Board to serve them on, and you have a perfect gift.

Remember s'mores are the perfect snack for around the campfire and what are you doing around the campfire?  Well, I hope you are laughing, talking and making memories with friends and family.  Or maybe you are inside the house during a storm and roasting over the burner... Yes, I've done that too. (Be careful if this is your chosen method).

So, get that fire built and get roasting.  Until next Monday, be safe and enjoy.
